Midnight Blue and Navy

* Although I stated the Midnight Blue was a hot color for fall and winter, I’m still seeing so much navy for spring that I think it is still relevant.

Deep midnight blue is a hot color for this year. You will see the deep blue in denim washes, eye shadows, polish, shoes, and dresses. There will also be a lot of metallic midnight blue which is so reminiscent of the 1960’s. Easier to wear than black, consider it the deep neutral of 2012.

A quick and easy way to add midnight blue to your look is with eye shadow or nail polish. YSL and Dior both have beautiful nail colors this season. Also, a smoky navy line on the upper lid creates a bit of drama, makes the white of the eyes look whiter, and pops your eye color.

For clothing, a dark denim wash gives a “dressed up” look to any outfit. This is especially convenient in our relaxed society where denim is accepted almost anywhere. Also, a great navy blazer cannot be beat for a spring/summer basic. J Crew has some great options and I especially like their “boyfriend” cut.
